The R’s (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) for Climate Resilience Wastewater Systems in Barbados (3R-CReWS) project, which is aligned with the Barbados Roof to Ridge Program and with the national priorities of Barbados, will result in building the resilience of the water sector in Barbados by reusing, reducing, and recycling wastewater that will contribute to fostering food security, increasing productivity, and improving the health and well-being of Barbadians. The CCCCC is excited to commence the implementation of this transformative project in close partnership with the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) and the Government of Barbados. The project’s success thus far is testament to the excellent leadership of the Government of Barbados and the strong partnership, ownership, and support of the BWA and its personnel.

According to Dr. Colin Young, Executive Director of the CCCCC, “The CCCCC looks forward, with the support of the GCF, to replicate and scale this project across other CARICOM Member States who are facing or will face water security issues because of climate change. As such, we call on other Member States to work with the CCCCC to mobilize climate finance, at scale, to build resilience to climate change. The CCCCC is grateful to the GCF Board, GCF Secretariat’s staff, particularly the Task Manager, Dr. Amgad Elmahdi, the BWA and its technical team, as well as to the CCCCC’s staff, particularly Dr. Donneil Cain, Lead Project Development Specialist, for ensuring that the project was approved at the 34th Meeting of the Board.”

We maintain the Caribbean’s most extensive repository of information and data on climate change specific to the region, which in part enables us to provide climate change-related policy advice and guidelines to CARICOM Member States.  In this role, the Centre is recognized by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the United Nations Environment Programme, and other international agencies as the focal point for climate change issues in the Caribbean. The Centre is also one of the few institutions recognized as a Centre of Excellence by United Nations Institute for Training and Research.
